Hello, My daughter has a 2003 Volkswagon jetta ,all power, factory alarm, heated seats etc, I want to get her a remote car starter she is looking at best buy she just moved to the Chicago area I don't trust best buy to install. I called the Volkswagen repair service, dealer in her area and they don't install remote car starters, not sure what and where to go from here, any help would be appreciated. Sharon

Optional Information:
2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Already Tried:
Spoke to the local Jetta service, dealer, about 1and 1/2hours away from her area, which is Wrightsville Chicago IL 60613 and he recommended Red Line Auto Electronics's in sschauburg?not sure of the spelling about 1 hour away, He gave me a price of 464.00 plus tax he was very nice but this seems high and stated that it was a sale price and he would probably run out of them within a day or two, so any help would be appreciated.Thank You Sharon

Sharon,

Basically anyplace that sells or installs remote starters is going to be either a big chain like Best Buy or a little mom and pop stereo shops. Dealerships aren't going to do it. I agree with you that I wouldn't let the 18 year old kids at the stereo shops install one, I've seen them run screws through wiring harnesses, fuel tanks, you name it during installs. Unfortunately that's your only choice if you want one.

I do have other choices which I noted in the "already tried" I thought maybe you would be able to let me know if the price seemed right or other places who would be able to install the remote starter who where in her area, but Thanks anyway

Sorry, there's a flaw in the site, your already tried wasn't showing up. $464 seems maybe a tiny bit high but it's hard to know without looking into the specs of the alarm system such as does it have a glass breakage sensor, vibration sensor, in other words how advanced is it? Is it just a normal remote starter or is it also a pager alarm with a notification on the keychain remote, how far away can the remote communicate from and is it good indoors like at the mall.

Being that your car already has one of the best immobilizer systems available built into the instrument cluster and engine control module that stuff doesn't really matter anyways becauses the car can't be stolen without a tow truck or somebody having an extra key.

Like I said I wouldn't let a stereo shop touch my car because I've seen them mess up too many vehicles. That price seems a little bit high to me just for the ability to be able to start the car without going outside.
