Hello,
One solution to this problem is to disable emulated audio drivers and/or universal audio capture and playback.Adobe Premiere Elements requires that a DirectSound audio driver or a compatible ASIO 2.0 audio driver is installed on the system.
To disable emulated audio drivers or universal audio capture and playback utilities on WIndows XP:Click Start and then Control Panel then double-click Sounds And Audio Devices. Next, click the Audio tab. Choose an installed audio device from the Sound Playback and Sound Recording menus, then click Ok.If you have WIndows Vista:Click Start and then Control Panel and then click Hardware And Sound and then click Manage Audio Devices. On the Playback tab, choose a device from the list and click Set Default. On the Recording tab, choose a device from the list and click Set Default and then click OK.
Let me know if that resolved the issue.
I am sorry the I didn't get to you sooner I just had family things I had to by part of..
First I am using Vista and looking at classic view and have a HP computer.
I looked at the control panel and find one that is "Sound" and another one that is "Add Hardware"
Under "Sound" there are three tabs, Playback, Recording, and Sound
Under Playback (three tabs)
Speakers
Realtek Digital (Has a green check by it) output. I think the system is using Digital sound ??
Realtek HDMI Output
Under Recording (Three tabs)
Microphone
Line in
Digitalln (green chick by it)
Sound --I think is just applying sound to events in windows and programs.
Under "Add Hardware" - which helps install drivers software to support older devices (I think?)
There is a Realtek HD auto manager which has two tabs
Sound effect and Default format.
I don't see Manage Audio Devices in the Control Panel or under the Hardware or Sound identified above.
What am I not seeing. I looked under Control Panel Home and found Hardware & Sound but it covers Printer, Mouse, and Play CD or other Media Automatically.
Under the Play CD or other media Automatically it has a list of Media --CD,DVD, etc. I tried changing a few and Just lost my CD player sound. I am not getting any where. Can you help ?

I will ok the payment but I still can not figure out why no sound. I have tried the fixes you suggested and sill no sound.
I have a new hp computer with vista and loaded the following;
Adobe Premiere Elements 7
Roxio Easy DVD Copy
Roxio Easy Media Creator 7
No Internet, No email, No web, No printer, No out side interference
I set it up for video only.
I am communicating with my old computer, which is slower and would crash at times
with Premiere Elements 3.1. Also would not burn the first time/some of the times.
Started to have problems/just wasting time and not getting any thing done
So I bought the new computer.
