Children like to make decisions concerning visitation when they reach about 12 years old. They get involved with sports, have friends, and make plans other than to visit with the other parent.
When children start to voice themselves about visitation than both parents should listen and start to bend a little.
If problems start to develop because of refusal to allow the children to have more elastic visitation than a petition can be filed to modify their visitation rights. The Court will start allowing the children to have input concerning visitation when they reach about 12 years old or when the court feels they are mature enough to make their own decisions concerning which parent they want to live with and how much visitation they should have.
