I need to know if it is front brake pads or the rear brake pads, procedure is different for front and rear
Are you working on the front axle or the rear axle?
I think your are working on the rear of the car, so I will show you what needs to be done to compress the piston back into the caliper for the rear axle. This requires a special tool that will turn the piston in as it is being compessed, the parking brake has a ratchet system built into it and requires the piston to be screwed back in, see pictures below.
The information I provided you above is for the rear axle. The piston needs to be turned to get back into the caliper as it is being compressed. You will need the special tool to do this.
