I took my dog to vet on Friday for a bad rash on stomach area and found out its a bacterial rash. The vet put her on a oral medicine along with a antihistamine. But the rash a really bad now and my dog is up all night licking it and sucking it. What kind of ointment can I put on it. I have been putting benadril on it but is there something better? I guess I will have to call back vet tomorrow if you can not tell me anything I can do till then. thanks

Answer

Hi Melissa,

Aww poor Deja........................................I bet that rash is realy annoying to her.

Since she is in vet scripted meds lets not give her anything by mouth.

Try to get this at a human health food or drug store or online:

Silvadene/silver sulfadiazine http://www.drugs.com/cons/silvadene-topical.html http://www.silvadene.com/

This can be hot spot, pyoderma or impetigo if there are any sores. Please compare to this link:

HOT SPOTS:

What you can also do is go to your local pharmacy and get some Burrows solution. This is drying agent. Many time you will find it in a name brand called Domeboro. Just ask the pharmacist what brand names they use. This is used for hot spots. It will help fight infection and decrease itchiness. Clip the hair away in the areas as well before using the drying solution.

Use an antiseptic shampoo called Chlorhexiderm. This in combination with the burrow's solution, or sulfadiazine will heal hot spots and relieve dryness and itching.

Please let me know how your baby is doing . I hope she feels better very soon.

Best wishes for her,

Terri
