Hello. I'd like to help you with your problem. How long has this been happening? Do you see or smell smoke? What type of furnace is this?

Answer

Most furnaces have a "fan switch" that waits for the temperature to come up before turning on the fan. This is to keep the furnace from blowing cold air. This sounds like a defective fan switch that is intermittently sticking in the open position keeping the heat going without the fan to pull air through and cool it thus the smoke alarm. The switch/sensor should be attached to the outgoing pipe and may even say "fan" on it. Try tapping on it the next time it gets stuck and see if the fan starts. If this solves it, replace the fan switch.

I can follow the electic lines from the fan to a black switch then down again to a silver box at the bottom of the furnace that goes directly to the electric switch. I take it your talking about the black switch directly under the fan. I'm not at home right now but I'll check it early this afternoon and get back to you.

I don't know how this works with getting the pay to you, but when I get back to the house, I'll definately hit accept. Thanks for you help and I'm sorry for seeming to be so cheap but with this economy and lossing my job over a year ago, I hope you can understand how cautious I'm trying to be.
