Question
Hello! I live in Israel & my sister lives in Chicago. My father died in Chicago without leaving a will. He had some money. My sister left me & my 3 kids a very very small amount. She gave herself and her 2 kids the bulk of the money because she felt they deserved it. When I asked her about her decision, she told me that was her decision & there was nothing I could do about it. Is that true?

Because I live in Israel & my sister lives in Chicago, I haven't done anything. It's as if she holds all the cards.
Accepted Answer
It is not necessarily true although if she was a "Joint Tenant with Right of Survivorship" on the accounts in which the money was being held she may have had the right to do as she pleased with it.
Otherwise, the monies should have passed pursuant to intestate sucession and been split equally between you and your sister. The kids aren't entitled to anything under an intestate succession.
