Question

On Nov. 20th, I hired supposedly tax pros to negotiate a tax settlement with the IRS. I gave them power of attorney and signed a payment agreement for electronic withdrawal of my checking account for payment installments to begin 12/05/08. I have yet to hear back from these people. I have tried to call, they tell me I have to leave a voice mail message and no one ever calls back. On the original documents it says that should I want to cancel payments I would need to call their accounting dept 24 hours ahead of time. Of course I only get voice mail and its not to the acct. dept it's the voice mail to the guy I talked with originally and have never spoken with again. What options do I have? I want 2 things. 1st-to stop them from taking the money out of my account and 2nd to stop the power of attorney with the IRS. I signed the docs for POA back on the 20th.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for using Justanswer.com. I'm going to break your problem down.

Question #1 "I want to stop them from taking the money out of my account" Call your bank and inform them that a payment may be hitting the account that you are not authorizing. Most of the time they will tell you to wait until the transaction shows up an then they will allow you to dispute it, however, they may be able to do it before it hits the account as long as you know the exact dollar amount including cents. It should be cleared up within 7 to 10 days after posting on your checking account if it comes through before getting it stopped.

2nd to stop the power of attorney with the IRS.

You need to immediately send an email, fax, or mail a Cease and Desist Letter. I am giving you a copy of a place where you can create your own for free. This will legally protect you and prevent them from causing you any further damage.

Once you send that letter, keep a copy for your records in case you ever need to share it with the IRS.

3rd. Call them up and leave a message informing them that you are giving a voice mail as a warning to the accounting department to stop them from trying to put the electric check through.

Let me know if I can do anything else to assist you. You can request me again in the future and I can help you with IRS compromise. You may be able to do this yourself with a little assistance.
