(2000 mercury mystique) while driving with the E brake off(obviously) the light on the dash stays on or flickers while driving more so on city streets than freeway. when accelerating it comes on and occasionally when i take my foot off of the gas the light turns off but not always.

Already Tried:
i have tried while driving to see what makes it go out and come back on, the amount of time i drive untill it stops temporarily, and putting it into neutrol and back into gear which sometimes works for a short time.

It sounds like the brake fluid is low. There is a float inside the top of the resivior that will make the same light come on.

You will want to make sure that the master cylinder resivior is full.
