Question

My geni opener is a 12 years old, 1/2 hp model with a screw opener. Today without warning while trying activate the opener the motor runs but the screw does not move. After a few seconds the motor stops abruptly. I cleaned the safety light and sensors, but it appears that this is not related to problem, but I have no way to verify this thought.

Answer

Hello and Welcome to JustAnswer Home Improvement

There is a small plastic coupler that connects the screw assembly to the main power head. To inspect and replace that part, remove the two screws holding the rail to the main power head. Slide the rail away from the main power head. The coupler may still be attached to the motor shaft. Remove the coupler with a pair of needle nose pliers and inspect both sides of the coupler.

The part number for replacement purposes is 36179R.
