Question
I am trying to winterize my 1GM10 single cylinder deisel engine. I can not find how to drain the raw water out of the top of the engine. I find no drain plug or petcock. Do you blow out the water diconnecting the raw water pump and turning the engine with the started?

Hello. The usual way to winterize an engine is to run non-toxic antifreeze through the cooling system. The easiest way to do this is with a winterizing kit (available from many marine stores) that has a 5 gallon tank that you connect by hose to the input side of the raw water pump. Start the motor and allow the pump to draw antifreeze until you see the pink liquid come out the exhaust. When you do, the water has been replaced by antifreeze. You can also use any large container to hold the antifreeze; just connect a hose to the water pump and put the other end in the container.
