Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXXXX,

At this age, I suspect that your glider may be suffering from a calcium nutritional deficiency. However, this should be confirmed by your regular veterinarian. I recommend that you take him in as soon as possible to your vet. In the meantime, you will need to continue to keep him warm and help him to eat and drink. I recommend using an eye dropper or small syringe to offer water. You can also offer fruit juice which will give him some calories to improve his strength. I would offer a little bit every 1 to 2 hours.

You can also offer food in the form of human baby food. Use a vegetable/meat combination and the eye dropper/syringe to put a little bit in his mouth. After he swallows, you can continue to give a little more.

Please let me know if you need help finding a veterinarian to take him to. Good luck,

i can't take him to a vet. i just fixed my car and cant afford to. every vet clinic that would look at him doesn't do care credit(a credit care for animal care only). if you know of one please tell me.

Answer

Dear XXXXXXXXXXX,

What area do you live in and how far are you able to take him (ie. within 5 miles versus 50 miles). I can make a recommendation for someone in your area. I wish more veterinarians would offer Care Credit. My office offers it and it is a wonderful option to have!

Hi XXXXXXXXXXX,

I am glad to hear that your glider boy is feeling better. I still think it is a good idea to have him examined if possible. I do know of a great exotic animal vet in Houston. I checked the Care Credit Website and it appears that they do accept Care Credit. Her name is XXXXXXX XXXXXXXX. The practice is Gulf Coast Avian and Exotics at 1111 West Loop South - Ste. #110. Houston 77027. The phone number is XXX-XXX-XXXX.
Until you can get him checked out, be sure to keep him warm and continue to feed him as needed. Be sure to include include some calcium in the mixture that he is eating. You can add calcium powder, or grind up a calcium tablet and add a good pinch of that. There is a good discussion of diet requirements and recipes at the following webpage: http://www.sugarglider.com/archives/ruth/index.html
Good luck and Happy Holidays!
