Question

2002 TDI ALH engine starts but dies within about 2 seconds after startup. Has recently had new fuel filter, battery, glow plugs and harness, alternator. Also seemed to have a bit of electrical that last few days as the driver window was slow to go down when I was driving at 70mph. Not sure this is tied in any way but thought I would mention it. thanks....

Info Request

Hello,

Is there any flashing lights in the instrument cluster after the vehicle dies out?

When the engine was previously running were any warning lights on the dashboard?

No previous lights at all. The usual ones at startup like cold engine and such.

Sorry...am at work but thought I remember a flashing one on the about the 1:00 position.

Answer

Ok, well if there is an orange flashing lights on the dash that looks like a car with a key through it, you can try and use another key and check the immobilizer function of that key. If it doesnt work you will have to tow (if it still does not work) to the dealer to get the keys programmed. It would be very wise to have all the keys with you when this occurs.

So I tried it last night when I got home and it started right up. Took it around the block twice and seems to be fine. Now what:)

You tried to start the car with another key or was it the same key that you were using when it would not start?

Hey Chris....it was a key. I had ordered one from Ebay and had it cut but it would not start. Did not realize that I had grabbed the old one. thanks for the help:)

Your welcome for the help!

It might be cheaper to buy the key from the dealer since sometimes you dont know how authentic the key the person on ebay is selling you.
