Question

I have a V reg Passat and the heating/air conditioning is controlled by the Climatronic system. The car was fine until this morning when I turned the engine over and the whole display was flashing. It did this for a couple of seconds before returning to normal. Now there is nothing coming from the fans. I have tried it on the highest setting and nothing is happening. What could be wrong with the heating/air conditioning ?

The climatronic unit has been known to fail. I would attempt to reset the system by removing the negative battery cable and connect it to the positive cable (using an extension or screwdriver if you have to). This will drain the capacitors in the vehicle and may start it working correctly.

 

If not this is a pretty complicated system with 3 flap motors and temperature sensors built into the system so it's really hard to say without scanning the climatronic module with a VW specific scan tool. This will likely have to be done by the dealer or an independant shop specializing in VW/Audi repair.

I have checked the display and held down the ECON buttton and the circulation button at the same time and it is showing 4F9 00.
