how do i install an aftermarket tachometer in a 2000 V.W. jetta 2.0L

Already Tried:
i connected it the way the directions said and got it working so far but it isn't giving me the same rpms as the stock one

Hello,

 

What are the reasons for an aftermarket tachomoter when there is one in the cluster from the factory?

 

Aftermarket tachometers are never 100% accurate as they have a more "loose" tolerances to them.

 

The OEM one would be more accurate because it computes the signal from all the sensors and the ECM to the instrument cluster.

 

How off is the aftermarket tachometer from the oem one?

its about when the stock one is at 2 or 3 rpm the aftermarket tach is at 1 rpm

it sits at 0 rpm

If the needle fluctuates when the rpms do (not as accurate), and the needle does sit at zero with engine off, there might not be an adjustment on this gauge and it might be normal.
