XXXXXXXXXXXXX,
I have a good idea with what is wrong with the car somewhat but I'd like you to give me the P fault code numbers preferably so I can look them up through VW. The temp sensor is definitely faulty and a known problem with MK4 VW vehicles. You definitely need to change that especially if it's a black sensor or green with a yellow dot, it's on the right side of the engine on the coolant flange.
I think you may have a bad crank position sensor and the wording of that code is incorrect but I won't know for sure unless you can get me either the P0xxx code or the official VW fault code.

Hi Danny
I have no VW or that P codes available. I also believe that is my problem but what about the MAF meter?
You don't have a fault for the MAF so I have no reason to suspect it. You really need to rescan the vehicle somewhere else (autoparts stores in the US do it for free what about where you live?) and report the code back. That hall effect sensor code is consistant with what your vehicle is doing and it's probably either the crank or camshaft position sensor but I have no way of telling without a P code or VW code.

The crankshaft position sensor is right above the oil pan on the front of the block near the transmission held in with one 5 mm allen head bolt.
The cam position sensor is behind the camshaft gear inside the timing belt cover.
I wouldn't disassemble anything until you get the scan. You can get back to me in this thread.
