Answer

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

If your wife fell and you feel she may have broken ribs she should be seen in the emergency room or in an urgent clinic. Her ribs may be just bruised and there is not much you can do for broken ribs except to try to immobilize that area. The problem when a person has broken or severely bruised ribs is that they do not expand their lungs fully and can get a partial collapse of the lung and then develop an infection. Hopefully she has not broken her ribs but I feel strongly that you should have her evaluated by a doctor and an x-ray should tell if the ribs were broken.

Hello,

I would recommend putting cold for the first 24 hours and then warm packs after that. Try to keep the area protected with the dressing . Hopefully this will resolve but if it does not you really have to take her to the doctor.
