Question

I've got a flatbed truck. The 2" filler hose needed to be replaced because it split. I got 3' from the filler cap to the tank, but the nozzle on the tank comes up at almost a 45* angle off the top but the frame or the truck is right there. The old hose seems to have a bend formed in it. The hose I bought is straight. Is there a way to do it yourself way of forming a slight bend at the very end

I've tried just shoving it on, but the hose doesn't go on well enough to get the hose clamp on properly.

Answer

Hello XXXXXX XXXXXX, I'm Chris, a current Ford Lincoln Mercury employee.

Thanks for visiting Just Answer. I will do my very best to help you resolve your concerns.

If you choose not to buy the correct part then your stuck with fabricating. You may need to lift the bed off a little to allow for assembly. I have found and use often. The 2 inch exhaust is the perfect size for some of these tight bends and it can be bent at greater angles or flatened much easier than straight filler neck hose. You can use portions of hose and pipe and hose clamps till you get it lined up to the filler neck.

I thought I bought the correct part. The flatbed is a custom bed and can't be lifted off - it's huge and heavy. It's got an auto crane, welder, utility boxes and tommy lift gate on it. I guess I could contact the manufacturer of the bed (whose nowhere near here). I just want to know if the rubber hose can be formed to fit or not without too much trouble.

Accepted Answer

Bending those hoses is near difficult since they are so rigid. I would try forming it over some pipes to get your bends while appling heat to it with a torch to see if it will conform and bend and hold a pattern. I have not tried this due to it handleing fuel and I cant send a customer away at the dealership with a repair I do not feel comfortable with.
