The only way it can be done is the combo meter has to be sent out to a designated repair/calibration company. At the dealer the car is not permitted to be driven in the interim while the meter is out and the documentation has to show that the car odometer was changed or re calibrated or replaced with the miles on the car at the time of the repair. When we order one we have to provide the miles to be programed into the meter. If this was done there has to be a paper trail.
This does not stop someone from buying one on the internet with less miles on it and slapping it in. It only takes a few minutes to change the entire combination meter in the dash.
I thought your question was a bit bold but I had to reply in the manner that I did. Does the car fax have a paper trail to follow the last repair IE collision or other?
Good luck.
