the car i purchased las service cal. 07 showed meter at 37 k and dash shows 34k, yet car fax shows 76k. do the cluster of these years need mileage programed at repair site, and od is stored in the computer, or do you tell repair site the mileage and they program in.

Answer

The only way it can be done is the combo meter has to be sent out to a designated repair/calibration company. At the dealer the car is not permitted to be driven in the interim while the meter is out and the documentation has to show that the car odometer was changed or re calibrated or replaced with the miles on the car at the time of the repair. When we order one we have to provide the miles to be programed into the meter. If this was done there has to be a paper trail.

This does not stop someone from buying one on the internet with less miles on it and slapping it in. It only takes a few minutes to change the entire combination meter in the dash.

I thought your question was a bit bold but I had to reply in the manner that I did. Does the car fax have a paper trail to follow the last repair IE collision or other?

i do not know if i mentioned this but iam a mechanic, was at gm for 12y. then moved to richland school district. boy are the old timers have trouble with obd 2 on the buses, just installed last 3-4y. My questions had to be set the way they were, i have scoured the underneath the transaxle has oil coat, but that is it, so iam assuming vehicle has 45-55k on it. will track down more info monday, when california opens. Thank you for replying. boy does this thing have a lot of gadgets on it.
