Question

I have noticed lately that when I shave my pubic region these bumps form around where the hair used to be. Some are just bumps while others seems to have a white head and when it is pulled it bleeds quite a bit. I was just wondering what this might be. They are only where I grow hair.

Answer

Hi. It sounds like what you have is called "folliculitis". This is an inflammation of the hair follicles that occurs from the frequent irritation from shaving the area. This is probably the most common type of skin infection and is usually not dangerous. The best way to initially treat this is with an over-the-counter topical preparation such as Bacitracin or Neosporin. If that doesn't work you may need an oral antibiotic such as Cephalexin. If you need an oral antibiotic you will have to see a doctor, assuming you live in the U.S.

Also, I would recommend you stop shaving this area till it heals.

I say all this on the assumption you don't have any chronic serious diseases like Diabetes or HIV. If you do you need to see a doctor. Hope this helps and if it does please "accept" my info.

I was thinking that myself, but what is the reason for the raised tiny white tags on some of them. I keep pulling them off but they keep showing up. Could you shine some light on this for me please.

Answer

It's hard to say exactly without seeing what you mean, but often "white tags" are from skin pores getting blocked by infection and dead cells. It's a mixture of dead cells, oil and bacteria, often called "whiteheads", which like pimples, are a type of infection. Any time you irritate your skin enough, like when you pull of these white tags, you will break some capillaries and cause bleeding. Hope this helps.
