There are many causes of red cheeks.

At this age, one of the most common is Fifth's disease or Slapped cheek syndrome. It is characterized by a red rash, but it lasts for only a number of days. Often there is a febrile illness associated with it, but not always.

Another cause is roscea, which can be treated with a prescription topical cream.

Another cause that many people worry about is Lupus, but I would not be worried about that until after you see a doctor. It is not common, particularly at this age.

The list of possibilities for a facial rash is extensive and include:

1. Angioedema
2. Atopic dermatitis
3. Bacterial meningitis
4. Cellulitis
5. Chickenpox
6. Conjunctivitis
7. Contact dermatitis
8. Dandruff
9. Dermatomyositis
10. Discoid lupus erythematosus
11. Dry skin
12. Eczema
13. Erysipelas
14. Folliculitis
15. Heat rash
16. Impetigo
17. Lupus
18. Measles
19. Melanoma
20. Q fever
21. Rosacea
22. Skin Cancer
23. Slap-cheek syndrome
24. Tinea

Most of these do not apply to your grandson. However, the point is that it is probably best to see a doctor in person for a condition like this, as it could be from a number of causes.

I hope this was helpful. If it was, then positive feedback is always appreciated, as are bonuses. If it was not helpful, then please send a follow up question or let me know your concern. CountryDoc
