It belongs to a friend of mine. 1999 Suburban. V-6 engine with 98,000 miles. It wouldn't start and then when he tried it later it started. It will not start, now.
Ok, I can handle that one! When it doesn't start what does it do exaclty? Does the starter turn the engine, or do you get just a click from the engine compartment?
Does the starter turn the engine ok, but no sign of life?
What finally gets it going when it does start?
Does your engine light ever come on? Lets check for codes. Cycle the key from off to on three times ending with it on and watch the digital odometer display. (You may have to count the flashes of the check engine light instead) The odometer codes start with a p and have four numbers, you may see more than one. It that doesn't work you'll have to count the engine light flashes. Count the flashes and when you see a longer pause its the start of the next digit. It will only flash up to 9 times in between pauses. Let me know all of the digits.
Ok. The next thing you'll need to do is check for spark while its acting up. Also listen when you turn the key on to see if you here the fuel pump run. Once you have this for me our next steps will probably involve some testing with a voltmeter.
Did you do the code read? Even if there are no codes stored you will still see at least one code come up that means you have made it to the end of the read. If you have not done this, please do because its very important.
We're all set. Going to get it towed to garage.
