The battery guage has stopped going to where it used to. When I drive the truck 10 minutes the check engine lite comes on. I have had the alt off twice and was bench tested twice and it says its ok. Is it possible that it still could be bad. the battery also goes dead after its sits awhile. Jim in florida

If you have had the alt tested and it is good. make sure you have battery power going to the big post on the battery termial on the alt if you do the most common problem with this system is that it loses the eng speed signal and the computer system that controls the charing rate thinks that the truck is not running and do not turn the alt on.this sensor is on the very front of the eng and is bolted down by the front of the crank shaft.check the connector where it plugs in they are bad about the wiring harness rubbing through and grounding out on the eng.
