Question

I have a '99 gmc sierra ext. cab 4x4 6.0L "new body style" a while ago i noticed my dash lights no longer worked. I checked all the fuses, all o.k. I then went to a junk yard and got a used switch "controls the on/off headlights and dimmer" They worked again! But only a week or so. If I push the dimmer switch all the way up so the dome light comes on so do the dash lights. This also was the case with the original switch. I don't think it's a quinky dink that the used one went out like the original. Any leads would be great!

as explained before, a completely different part.

Answer

The problem you are experiencing sounds like a ground circuit problem. First I would try cleaning the ground wires at G109 at the back of the engine, then start checking your others, including the one for your trailer harness. Also make sure that there is no water in any of the vehicles lamps.
