Answer

Well, given that the symptoms have started recently (and the fact that he has significant facial swelling that his eyes have swollen shut) I would be inclined to have him seen in person by a doctor for an exam.

While numbness is the only symptom right now he has for a "stroke", the numbness would generally be on one half of the face, or part of the body.

However, only an examination in person can determine if these symptoms are due to a neurologic condition or from an immunologic reason (severe allergic reaction) or something else, and given that this has become worse over the past day, it would be best for him to be seen in person.

I just started taking metformin hcl 500 mg could this have anything to do with any thing

Accepted Answer

It is not listed as a common side effect of the drug, though anyone could have an allergic reaction in this manner to any type of drug. It would be even more suspicious if this drug were taken for the first time within a few days of these recent symptoms. But it may be impossible to prove, since the only thing you can do is to stop the medication and see if the swelling and hives improve.
