Question

Hi I have written twice before today but just have one more thing to ask. If my Xray showed Fibrosis and the Xray 14 months before this, did not show Fibrosis. Could this mean that the Fibrosis might not get any worse or does it always continue to get worse. I have had some good days of late, no shortage of breath but I am very tired. When I feel okay I think maybe I will be fine. I cannot wait until I see the consultant, need to know this now please.

I cannot send Xray's but can copy the result to you. It reads "there are calcified mediastinal nodes and some upper lobe fibrosis.this may be related to previous TB exposure. There is a wider differential."this was on 14th Ocotber this year following a few days of shortness of breath, pain and heaviness in chest and GP hearing right sided crackles. I have never been exposed to TB. I had a PE in 2000 and suffer from controlled Asthma. I also had pain down left arm. I never feel very well but have some good days. I don't have a cough. Need to know what I am up against. I am seeing a thoracic consultant at end of month, but need this info now please.

Answer

Chances of T.B are quite remote when we see calcified mediastinal nodes along with fibrosis .Though this can be possible in pediatric age group but unlikely at your age .
You may be reffered for further investigations like CT scan of the chest etc for further evaluation ..

What I need to know is whether the fibrosis ALWAYS gets worse. The prognosis for someone having fibrosis like mine.

Answer

Numerous chest diseases can give rise to some of the symptoms and signs of pulmonary fibrosis.
As such pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive illness .

I have used your site 3 times now and have accepted the answers and paid on the same day. I have paid for this answer as I said in my last e-mail. Yours is the only site I have used as I found out about it at the hospital where I sued to work. I hope this can be sorted.
