Answer

Hi

It's a widely used and very effective treatment for anxiety but can take up to 12 weeks to work.

I prescribe it often for anxiety disorders.

Please let me know of you need to discuss this some more or would like some self help info.

would you advise against a drink every now and again? i do get wobbly type legs when i have to walk any where, maybe its anxiety and after a while the medication will help in that respect?

Answer

Hi

I advise that you only consume alcohol in small amounts - reduces the effectiveness of the medication and can worsen anxiety.

Wobbly legs are not a typical symptom of anxiety so I cannot be sure that the citalopram will help you with that.

my wobbly legs occur after a drink so i get anxious the next day. that makes sense. i have one final question, how long can i stay on the medication and are they addictive? i guess in time my anxiety will reduce and i will be able to socialise more?

Accepted Answer

Hi

They are not addictive.

A standard course is for 12 months.
