Answer

Dear XXXXXXXX,

Many back pain sufferers do experience relief with the use of an inversion table or inversion chair. They are not widely accepted in the medical community as a form of treatment for back disorders, but there is also no evidence that they can do no harm.

Inversion therapy is a method of treating back pain by diminishing the influence of gravity, reducing the compression of the vertebrae and discs and allowing the muscles and ligaments that encase the spine to relax. It doesn't take long in any forum consisting of back pain sufferers to hear many stories of relief with the use of inversion therapy. There is no medical reason that it should not be tried.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Unfortunately, you did not list if you have any medical conditions or problems other than the back problems...you will need to check with your Medical Doctor to see if inversion is a good idea. There are some patients in which inversion is not a medically 'good idea'.

Please ask your Dr before starting any treatment like this on your own.

Answer

I regret that in my other post, I did not consider the possible danger of inversion therapy causing a rise in blood pressure or intraocular pressure. I thank my colleagues for bringing this to my attention, and I apologize for any confusion my previous may have caused. Please do, as with any exercise program, consult your physician to determine if you are healthy enough to try this therapy.
