Question

I have a 2001 chevy S-10(2wd 4.3 liter) that has developed a twitch in the rear end. When I step on the gas the rear end moves a few inches to the side, then when I let off it swings the other way. I have found nothing broken(axle, springs, shocks,)but I was wondering what the small horizontally mounted shock(right side of axle)was for. If this is worn out would it cause the problem?

Is there a bar about 3 feet long that mounts from the rear end to the chaise? And how long have you owned the truck?

There is no bar attached to the rear end. There is a small, horizontally mounted, shock that is mounted on the right hand end of the rear end(just inboard of the leaf spring attach point) that connects to the chassis.

Accepted Answer

You need to change the rear shock that runs horizontally. I never seen a shock there. They usually have a sway bar. But you don't. Your truck is reacting like it has a broken sway bar. So I would change the shock. Good luck.

Thank you,

Jim
