Question

I have a 96 chevy tahoe. I am having a problem with it starting. The engine turns over and it seem as if it wants to start but doesn't. In a way, it seems it it not getting enough gas or something. This happened before and I let it sit for a couple days and then it started up. It seems every time this happens it rains. Could you tell me what the problem is.

1996 Chevrolet Tahoe

Already Tried:
Someone said that I needed to use high grade gas. Then I was told I need a fuel pump, which I already replaced twice in 3 years. I replaced the starter.

Have you checked for trouble codes or is the check engine light on at all? Has the fuel pressure been checked to see if 55-62 psi key on engine off and not drop more than 5 psi in 10 minutes?

The check engine light is not on and I did not check the fuel pressure. I was also told that it could be the crank sensor. But why would it only happen when it rains?

Accepted Answer

Moisture and cooler/denser weather sometimes affects electrical connections and resistance. I would check fuel pressure just to eliminate that from the equation. If within spec check cranking RPM and signal using a scan tool and monitor all engine sensor data ok. Check these things and let me know what you find and we can go from there.
