Turn signal problem

Sent to Car Experts July 30 2005 at 9:13 AM

Problem with my 1997 GMC, 1500 SLE, 5.7L extended cab, third door. Signal lights work OKay. However, when the turn signal lever is in the neutral position, the flasher clicks intermittently. However, when this happens, the turn signal lights don't work. Drives me nuts. What is wrong?
