Question

hi I have 325Ci Coupe 2001 model, I had the warning lights coming on and had it diagnosed as Camshaft sensor and crank shaft sensor problems. Now that I have that changed, "Engine" warning light is coming on with occational oild warning, the engine has gone jerky as well. What is the best course of action that would be low cost and solve the problem once and for all, Anything other than BMW garage will be appreciated

Did you change both cam sensors? What color is the oil light?

First the engine was switching off when approaching traffic light, etc- hence I did a diagnostic test, it said that Camshaft sensor and crank shaft sensor needs replacement, I had these sensors replaced. Since the engine oil lights were comig on, the mechanic tried to top it up but ended up filling above already maximum level. Now oil light comes on occationally and engine warning light are coming on with jerky ride. Do you think, overfilling the oil is the problem? is it something the BMW dealers can only sort out?

Answer

No, oil level will not cause these problems. If the warning light is still coming on then you still have a problem. You have two cam sensors. One for intake and one for exhaust cam. I would recommend having the faults checked again. Also once you have rectified fault you need to clear the fault memory.

ALL THE ABOVE i HAVE TRIED ALREADY TRIED. i REPLACED BOTH INPUT AND OUTPUT CAMSHAFT SENSORS. THE MECHANIC DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AGAIN AND REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AGAIN AS THE PART MAY NOT BE THE RIGHT ONE.

OLD PROBLEM- THE ENGINE SWITCHING OFF-DISAPPEARED BUT THE NEW PROBLEMS ARE JERKY ENGINE AND ENGINE LIGHTS COMING ON , GOOGLED IT AND THE FORUMS SAYS THE EXHAUST SENSOR IS FAULTY, I DID NOT DO THE DIAGNOSTIC, BUT WANTS TO KNOW

Answer

The only sensor in the exhaust is the 02 sensor. This will not cause a drive ability problem. The engine oil light if yellow is likely a bad level sensor. If the crank sensor was bad the engine would not run at all. If the garage you have been going to is not even sure they are using the correct parts, the how can you be sure the even diagnosed the car correctly? I would take it to a dealer and start over.
