Hi, I've got a '97 Honda Civic 4 door and the to open the drivers door from the outside I have to turn the key and use the handle at the same time. to Open from the inside I have to use the inside handle and pull up on the lock at the same time! The left rear door won't open at all, the only door that works properly is the right rear.

It's not that its locking all the time, it just is locked all the time. I locked my keys inside the car once and had to call AAA because of this problem.

Sounds like the latch itself is the problem.

So how would I fix the latch? The door panel probably needs to come off, will I need any special tools??

Hi again,
You'll have to replace it. You have to remove the door panel and then the plastic covering then inspect the latch and see what's going on. I always check first to see if any rods are disconnected before I replace the latch. Common tools can take it all apart you won't need to use anything special. Hope that helps.
