Question

I did a blonde thing. I have a 1999 Mercury Mystique with 100,000 miles. The cars oil level was a half quart low. I used the wrong oil - I used 10W 30 and it should have been 5W 20 according to my oil change sticker. I use Valvoline synthetic blend. Will this hurt the engine if I drive my car? My commute to/from work is 20 miles one-way. I live in Minnesota and the high temp today was 40 deg. F.

Accepted Answer

Hello XXXXXXX, you didn't hurt anything. Having a half quart of 10w30 mixed with 4.5-5 qts of 5w20 will not give you any problems. It will mix and thin out in the crankcase. Don't let it bother you. There are many non-blondes that have done the same thing so don't feel bad, no harm done.
