Question

We have a Sears Kenmore Model #363.1441590. It will not empty the water between cycles?   Could it be the timer or pump?

Hi, & thanks for asking your question on JustAnswer.

It is most likey the lid switch. Look on the underside of the lid for a plastic"finger". Note the hole this "finger" goes into. Take the flat end of ma pen and push down(not too hard) on the switch. Do you hear a click?

I am here trying to help my husband. If you mean the little slot that is at the top middle of the door - yes it clicks. However last night when my husband was working on this he saw a broken piece of plastic maybe two - two and a half inches long and maybe a half inch wide. I am looking at the Model guide for the dishwasher. Could it be that part #802 "latch assembly" could have broken? If you need to call me to walk me through to help you or I call you my cell number (so I can walk to the dishwasher) is XXX-XXX-XXXX.

If the wash cycle runs, it's not the door switch. Do you hear the motor running in the pumpout part of the cycle, except nothing discharges into the garbage disposal?

I called my husband and he says he does not hear the water pump engaging. The timer took two hours to move from the start position ( 12:00 o'clock ) to the 5:00 o'clock position on the dial. Then he manually turned the clock dial very slowly - one click at a time past the rinse cycle nothing happened until he reached the heat cycle then the washer motor stopped and the heat cylce began.

Answer

OK- The wash motor and the pump motor are one & the same. There is a valve that determines whether the water is recirculated (wash) or pumped out (drain). The timer is definitely acting up if it took 5 hours to complete 1 cycle. I would replace it.

Thank you for answer. My husband said we will replace the timer. However do you think we should replace the "switch cycling" unit also?

Accepted Answer

The cycle select is part of the timer. Unless you are refering to the solenoid that operates the gate valve which "cycles" between recirculate & pumpout. I doubt the solenoid would fail at exactly the same moment as the timer. Your timer part number is WD21X672.
