Thanks for your attention and diligence; maybe I should really ask a more specific question, which is: is cataract surgery feasible for an amazon parrot.

I'll spend as long as you might need on this David, I really appreciate efforts like yours.

To be honest, even in raptors with hopes of being returned to the wild after rehab, cataract surgery is not often performed. When it is, the overall results aren't usually promising enough for a release.

As your research has already determined, Amazon's with a dominant genetic marker for cataracts will just about always become impaired and eventually, blind.

The strange part of this is that your bird is so young, even for the genetic predisposition to show.

If you have a veterinary teaching university anywhere within an hour or even two, it might be worth looking into. Sometimes cases are accepted for little or no charge when it's an unusual one that would be helpful to their research and teaching.

I have had him three days- he seems to be adapting to the "bird room" with seven other birds, who are given lots of freedom.
