Question

my budgie is shedding its feathers which i understand is normal. however one morning his head seemed to have dried blood on it, i am unsure if it is related to the feather shedding or if my other budgie may have injured him. he seems undetered by the injury. should i just apply a mild antiseptic cream?

Answer

Hello,

Yes, you can apply a thin coat of Neosporin. Keep an eye on the wound for signs of infection, such as swelling, oozing of pus, increased redness, or failure to heal. If any of those occur, you'll need to take your bird to an avian vet for treatment. I would also closely watch the two birds. If any serious squabbling is going on, it would be best to separate them. If you have more questions about this, just let me know by clicking on REPLY. I hope your bird heals uneventfully.
