I just replaced the ignition lock cylinder now the theft light comes on and car is shutting off what do i need to do?

I bought the car for my 16 year old daughter and was going to fix it for her no rush but my car has broken down and it would be cheaper to fix hers for now until i can save up and see what is going on with mine.
back to the chevy, the ignition was broke, it would spin around i thought all we would need is to fix it by replacing that ignition lock cylinder. and bought new battery which was almost $300. now we are having problems trying to use the car when you start it, it will shut off in like 3 seconds. What can i do.

ok turn the ignition lock cylinder to the crank position then just release the key to the on position, and left it set there in that on position until the security light stops flashing (may take about 10-15 minutes. good luck. i hope i helped and please accept my answer. thanks T-MAN
