When I travel overseas I cannot access my Outlook 2007 files/persona

When I travel overseas I cannot access my Outlook 2007 files/personal folders/calendar, etc. The online remote access will show the day's files, but none of the previous inbox/outbox/personal folders. Is it possible to forward Outlook to either Gmail or Hotmail and will it then show all the folders and files/calendar, etc? HELP. I am leaving on Oct 30th 2008 and need to resolve this before then. Many thanks indeed.

Optional Information:
OS: Windows XP; Browser: IE

Already Tried:
Called Outlook who were not helpful. They said that I could access it via the internet, but could not tell me how to get into my files and folders. I use it for business and need this access to all my Outlook info including files/folders/calendar/contacts, etc. Very frustrating. My Outlook is set up to open in my Server: Atlantic broadband, which I can open on the internet, but again I can't get anything but my usage for the period away. So how do I forward this to either Gmail or Hotmail, or how do I access it directly? I am woefully ingorant of these matters. Many thanks. Illona.

Thank you kindly, John D. The info is really useful & practical, and I will definitely be doing as you instruct. However, will I be able to work with those files as active files or willl they be inactive? That's the thing.

Will these files be active whilst on the desktop so that I can open them, reply, save, etc. Or will they only become active when I reverse the operation? Sorry John, I feel a bit daft asking this of an Engineer. Thanks for your patience. Illona.

No problem Illona, I will try to explain.

Not sure what you mean by active, but you won't be able to work with these files unless you open them in Outlook (i.e. copy them to Outlook.then open them). Once that is done you can forward these messages or view and extract data from them etc..
