Question

I have a Mercury 3.0 litre xri {1995} 225 horse. I have a hesitation going to full throttle from idle to 2000 rpm. The hesitation can last from 10 seconds to 10 minutes. Going to full throttle from 2500 to 3000 rpm it does not hesitate. I have cleaned the fuel system, new plugs, new throttle positioning sensor, and the fuel injection system has been checked by a mechanic with no problems.Compression in each cyclinder is 100 psi 94-100 octane fuel is used. Hello,

Some of the Mercury engines have a low speed and high speed ignition circuits in the stator. If you can give me the serial #, I can verify and give testing instructions. Also you can try a timing light (connecting to each plug wire one at a time) with engine running. They should all be firing.

Hello..That engine uses a bobbin style stator and cdm modules. The Problem you describe can be caused by 2 items. 1st is the TPS is not set correctly and the 2nd by a bad/misadjusted shift interrupt switch. A faulty TPS can cause this... best way to check it is to have a "sweep test" done on the TPS (this can also be done as a "graph display" when connected to the Computer Diagnostic System.
