Question

I just changed the battery on my 1997 Lumina and the engine cranks but won't start, as if it's not getting any fuel. How can I use some instant starting fluid to check if it's a fuel problem?

Hello XXXXXXXXXX, was the vehicle starting fine before the battery was replaced? As for the starting fluid you would just spray it directly into the engine to see if it will start. Were the battery cables crossed at all when the battery was replaced?

Hello BOBBYSS, yes, it was starting fine before. I don't think the battery cables were crossed. How do I spray starting fluid directly into the engine?

Answer

Pull the intake tube off and spray the fluid into the engine.

It starts with the starter fluid but then dies - it's not getting any gas. Could I have screwed something up when I changed the battery? What should I do next?

Accepted Answer

It is possible that you may have blown a fuse when you replaced the battery. Start by checking all of the fuses. There is a fuse box under the hood and one under the dash. Make sure that all fuses are intact. Let me know what you find.
