i just had sex for the first time just over 3 days ago so i don't know if it's to do with this, but i keep having to urinate every half hour and when i do i get a weird almost tingling sensation but it really hurts. i know it can't be an sti because we were both virgins and used protection. also, i just came on my period now so it may be that, i'm really not sure, can you help me?

Hi!

Congratulations on using condoms. That was a really healthy choice.

What may have happened, though, is that the mechanical motion of sex may have pushed a bacteria up your urethra into your bladder causing a bladder infection. You should get tested for this, and probably need to be treated.

To prevent this in the future, I routinely advise women that they should get up shortly after sex and empty their bladder as it will flush the bacteria out before they have time to reproduce and cause an infection.
