Question

I had been taking metoprolol succinate er 50 mg made by Sandoz mfg for a number of years. This month Walgreens changed to Ethex mfg pill "elliptical white tablet 369 on one side". This pill compared to the one from Sandoz looks like a horse pill. Why would the same 50 mg tablet, one very small, and the other huge, be the same in mg? It looks more like a 200 mg tablet! I tried looking for the pill identifier online, but cannot locate a picture of the pill or even through the manufactuer Ethex either. I have asked the pharmacist..he said it was okay. I have called my doctor's office, and the girl said it was okay. But, you know what, neither explained why the pill was so devastatingly different. I am 69 years old, and am afraid to take this pill. Please, if you can, verify or at least tell me what else is in this pill. XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

different companies make the same meds.. the active ingredient in pills from all these companies would be the same .. in your case 50 mg of metoprolol. If your pharmacist have
verified that its the same medicine .. then you should not hesitate to take it. stopping blood pressure medicine can be dangerous and can lead to stroke.

This still does not answer why the pill is 4 x bigger than the one I was taking. Are there fillers, etc in the pill?

thats what I said .. the pill is made of active ingredient and the placebo or inactive ingredient which doesnt have any effects .. its just the binder for the active ingredient or in some case it can be coated to make it sustained release.


the other thing I forgot to mention if you are unsure or hesitant to take the pill.. take them back to walgreens and get it filled from other pharmacy or even they may be able to give you the same medicine by another company
