Hello,
I would get a cheap indicator light and get underneith the vehical. Have somebody turn the key and try and crank the engine. Touch the indicator light to the positive wire on the starter. If the light turns on then your starter is fried. If there is no power to it then check your starter relay. Hope this helps.

The cooling fan probably always came on when starting the vehical. Its just noticable now that the engine isn't starting and making noise.
