How do I replace the trunk and hood pistons in a 1982 Cadillac Eldarado? I know they are available at a parts store, but I can't figure out how to open or releace the clip that holds them to a pin.

Already Tried:
looking at the clip to see how it held the piston in place. looking for some kind of a release. hoping it was something like a "C" clip. all with no luck. idon't want to put a scrwe driver to it as i think the material is like spring steel and bending it would ruen it. perhaps buying a new piston includes the clip. i still need to get the old one off.

Hello XXXXXXXXX, Usually you use a small screwdriver and insert it under the metal clip at the opposite side of the ball. When you twist the screwdriver up, the clip slide up out of the strut a little, but it's enough to release it from the ball. The new struts will come with the clip also.
