Optional Information

2001 Chevrolet Silverado 8.1L 496

For some parts of it, yes. Some changes can be made to it and it can be monitored with the tech 2 scanner that GM uses. But, to make program changes to it or to update software for it from GM, you need to be able to access the GM Tech assist center, which is also done with the scanner. GM dealers have a direct line to the Tech center that they can plug their scanner into and up and down load info to and from the computer for the trans. Any good class 2 scanner can access and monitor the trans, but you need the link to tech assist to make major changes. A regular code reader can't do any of this. A good class 2 scanner sells in the 3 to 4 thousand dollar range. But there is no hand held programer available that can reprogram the trans, with out the tech assist center connection. Hope that makes sense to you. Thanks

Yupp that all makes since to me and I appriciate it. I am in Iraq right now so I just looking for ways to better the shift points and so on. You clarified my question. I am just going to take it to a dealer to get it done.

Answer

That is your best bet. They have all of the latest up dates and new programs for the trans, so you can be sure your getting the newest stuff available for it when they do it. Thanks for the accept, feedback and for using JA. It is appreciated. As is your time in Iraq. Good luck with the trans and with your time over there.
