Dear Chris: It sounds like your African Grey may have a sinus, eye or mouth infection. The fact that he is acting quiet is a concern because I am worried that he is becoming systemically ill. Birds are pretty good at hiding the fact that they are ill. Once they start showing external signs of illness, such as acting quiet and a swollen eye, the illness is usually is progressing somewhat rapidly internally. Because it is Saturday, you may be able to get him seen by an avian vet today. I'd recommend trying to get him seen today so he can be evaluated and started on antibiotics if appropriate. Most avian vets will get you in today if you call and say your bird is acting lethargic and has a swollen discharging eye. That is my recommendation at this point.
