Question

I am having a major problem with Verizon! I had logged into my e-mail account under my login info and was able to get into other people's accounts. I was able to access over 35 different people's accounts, of whom I did not know, in a period of an hour. I called verizon and was told it would be resolved in 48 hours. I called back and other people were calling with the same problem. When I was able to access my e-mail, I noticed someone had accessed my account and moved 205 messages into the trash box and someone had viewed them. This problem continued over 2 days even though I was told it was resolved. Someone had accessed my account a total of 3x's from what I could tell and delted 205 e-mails. Verizon is not handling the situation properly. Numerous people were affected and they have not informed the public. Also my personal information was accessed, such as military info, my home address, and where my children attend school. What can I do? I called the FCC & FTC

Answer

hi

you have done all the correct things - and you could have basis for a lawsuit, based on the negligence of verizon in which your personal information was accessed. but you would need to show damages - for instance, if your information is used in some sort of ID theft. hopefully, this will not happen. but you should consider talking with a lawyer in your area to discuss the merits. keep in mind, unfortunately, the mere fact that someone accessed your information would be be cause for action without the damages.
