Answer

XXXXXXXXXX,

Thanks for posing the question to just answer. I hope I can help!

Although tubal ligation is thought to be a mainstay for preventing pregnancy, in rare cases ectopic pregnancies or implantation can occur. Although unlikely, it is possible, and it would be best to se your gyn in order to do a blood test for beta-hcg (the hormone that increases in pregnancy) and possibly an ultrasound to ensure that you are not pregnant, and to visualize the tubes and uterus to possibly explain why your period is late. An ectopic pregnancy can be dangerous, since rupture of a fallopian tube can cause a large amount of internal bleeding.

In this case, I would err on the side of caution, and make an appt. If you get abdominal pain at any point, I would visit the local emergency room to be evaluated.

Accepted answers greatly appreciated! Bonus always welcome!

so im probably not pregnant.what else could cause me to not have my menstral cycle?

Accepted Answer

That is difficult to say without more history and a full exam. Often fluctuations in hormonal levels (gender specific, thyroid, adrenal), changes in diet or exercise pattern, weight fluctuations, stress, or serious infection can cause menstrual cycles to become irregular.

At age 37 it would likely be too early to be experiencing the first signs of menopause, but this would have to be confirmed with a blood test to look at the levels of LH and FSH in the blood.
