y= -x^2 +6x - 5.5
we differentiate
y' = -2x + 6
Set y' = 0 and solve for x to find vertex:
0 = -2x + 6
2x = 6
x = 3.
now lets plug in x = 3 into the function to find the y-coordinate of the vertex:
y = -3^2 + 6*3 - 5.5 = 3.5
So
vertex = (3, 3.5)
Since the coefficient of x^2 is negative, the vertex is a maximum and the graph will look like this:
